I thought that I would start a new themed post, every month, with a list of my current favorites. This one is a little late since it is already August, but during July, I was…

Listening to: Stuff Mom Never Told You
I typically only listen to podcasts on my slower runs or my long runs. I’m not really running for time on those, they tend to be more relaxed in pace, and I end up learning something new. One of the recent Stuff Mom Never Told You episode’s was on the Handmaid’s Tale and if you are watching the show then you know how interesting it is. A lot of the conversation revolved around comparing our current situation in the US to their situation in Gilead and how maybe that’s not so accurate. I always come away with a new perspective on things.
The actual description is: “a research-driven rundown of the ever-evolving challenges facing women today and throughout history, paired with smart, strategic solutions to further women’s lives, careers, and activism.”
I cannot emphasize enough how much this water bottle has saved me this summer. My smaller handheld bottle is just not big enough for this heat and humidity. I’m carrying water on two and three milers, just because the heat is so overwhelming. This has been great with its 21 ounce capacity and it has a nice pouch for me to put my key and gels in. The pouch isn’t big enough for a phone, but that’s fine for me.
Wearing: Brooks Adrenaline 17
I recently got new shoes and I’m loving my new bright Brooks Adrenaline. This is the style I was replacing and so far, so good. They are stability shoes, since I am prone to some pronating. The cushion is nice and supportive. I was pleased with them before, so it was an easy decision to order another pair.
Binge watching: True Blood
I watched this show back in college, but only the first two seasons of it. After getting through the latest Orange is the New Black (so good!) I decided to go back and see if I can finish the series. You can find it on Amazon Prime.
It’s kind of weird after the first few seasons, but I do get rather caught up in all the love triangles!
Training for: The Leesburg 20k
This will be my first 20K and my second time running a race in August. (Last year I did the Patrick Henry Half in the middle of August.) As I was running in July I kept thinking, why self? Why do you do these races in the summer?!” I’m really hoping the weather will be cool(er) and not too painful for the 12.4 miles.
Looking forward to: A beach vacay with my college roommate
It kind of came together at the last minute, but I am SO excited for a week away with one of my best friends on the beach. Running and lounging on the beach sounds like the perfect thing after a busy spring and summer. I can’t wait to get through some of the books I’ve been meaning to read, but haven’t had time for.
What were your July favorites? Any good shows that I need to add to my binge list? What races are you training for?
Let me know in the comments!
