Giving Thanks & A Turkey Trot

I love the Holidays. And I love traditions. One of my favorite Thanksgiving Day traditions is doing the SOME Trot for Hunger 5k run in Washington, DC.

Every year, my dad, my brother, and I (or some combination of that) head into the city on Thanksgiving morning to get in a quick 5k before all of the Thanksgiving festivities. As the years have gone by, some of my brother’s friends have joined as well. It has become quite the nice Thanksgiving Day tradition.

This is the 15th year for the SOME Trot for Hunger, and we have run at least four or five years.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is an organization in the Washington DC area that helps the poor and homeless in many different ways, one being by providing food and meals.

This year the Trot for Hunger raised $559,876.76! It feels great to be involved in such a worthwhile charity event on a day that is full of reflection and gratitude.

As far as the 5k went, it was great weather for it and the three miles sped by. I had a 10:05 first mile, a 9:05 second mile, and ultimately finished with a time of 29:49. My goal was to come in under 30 minutes so I am very pleased with my time! I think it was my fastest 5k yet.

I am so thankful this year for this space to share with all of you and for all of you who have been following along and reading this little pet project of mine.

I hope that all of you enjoyed a relaxing day with your loved ones and did (and ate) exactly what you wanted to! Happy Thanksgiving!
